211 Introduction to Judaism. Fall; 4 credits (H-E). General introduction to Judaism covering the biblical, classical rabbinic, medieval, and modern periods. Crosslisted with Jewish Studies and Religious Studies. Prerequisite: none. Open to Freshman. Honors credit available--see instructor.

217 Introduction to Biblical Literature. Fall; 4 credits (I-L). Introduction to the literature and literary history of the Old Testament, Apocrypha, Dead Sea Scrolls, Talmud, and Midrashim. Meets with Literature in Translation/Jewish Studies/Religious Studies 227. Selected readings in Hebrew for majors. Writing Intensive. Prerequisite: none. Open to Freshman. Not recommended for Graduate students. Honors credit available--see instructor.

241 Introduction to Biblical Archaeology. Fall; 4 credits (H-E). An overview of archaeology and its relationship to understanding the biblical world. Crosslisted with Jewish Studies. Prerequisite: none. Open to Freshman. Honors credit available--see instructor.  448 Classical Rabbinic Texts. Fall; 3 credits (L-A). Introduction to the language and literature of the rabbinic period in Judaism (2nd-7th century CE). Acquisition of language skills to read Hebrew texts of this period, including Mishna, Tosephta, and Midrash. Crosslisted with Jewish Studies and Religious Studies. Prerequisite: Hebrew 202 or 324 or consent of instructor. Texts are read in Hebrew. Honors credit available -- see instructor. 451 Biblical Archaeology. Fall ; 3 credits ((H-I). Meets with Hebrew 241. Extra reading and paper required. Prerequisite: MUST be a graduate student in the Hebrew Department.
