HEBREW 533 COURSE GUIDELINES

Welcome to Hebrew 533.  Here are some basic guidelines for the work we will be doing in this course.  If, at any time you need to discuss any aspect of the course with me, I’ll be happy to do so.  This is particularly important for people who discover that they are having a problem of some sort in the course.  Don’t let the problem fester.  Talk to me about it.  My office is in 1342 Van Hise. My office hours are: Monday 11:00-12:00 and Wednesday 3:45-4:30.  If these time turn out to be impossible for you, we can always schedule a meeting at another time.

 

READING ASSIGNMENTS

 

1.      The readings for this class are designed to be challenging.  All readings are assigned in advance and must be fully prepared at home.  You should come to class having worked to understand the reading to the very best of your ability.  Be prepared to discuss the reading in Hebrew.  Make good use of the glossaries and your dictionary.

 

 

1.      Reading preparation and class participation are an important element in determining your grade for the course.

 

WRITTEN ASSIGNMENTS

 

 

1.      Written assignments consist of essays and Hebrew language exercises.  Assignments are due on the Monday of the following week, unless another day is announced.  Late assignments will not be accepted unless prior permission is given.

 

2.      All assignments (both in Hebrew and in English) should have generous margins and must be written on alternate lines of ruled paper.  This is essential for effective comments and corrections.

 

3.      All assignments and quizzes must be kept in a pocket folder that is handed in whenever a new assignment is due.  This makes it possible for me to have all your previous work before me each time I read a new assignment.  It also enables you to review my previous comments and corrections before starting a new assignment.  The assignment folder is a great help in keeping constant track of your progress.  A complete assignment folder is required in order to complete this course.  Do not keep any material other than your assignments and quizzes in this folder

 

ATTENDANCE

 

Since a major portion of the grade for this course is determined by class preparation and participation, attendance is mandatory.  If you have a justifiable reason for being absent from a class, be sure to discuss this with me.
